Jim is a Southern California native, growing up enjoying surfing, scuba diving and hanging out at the beach. He attended Moorpark College’s Exotic Animal Training and Management program in Moorpark, California, becoming a zookeeper and wildlife educator. He went on to become an animal care specialist and trainer in zoos and aquariums. He
Jim is a Southern California native, growing up enjoying surfing, scuba diving and hanging out at the beach. He attended Moorpark College’s Exotic Animal Training and Management program in Moorpark, California, becoming a zookeeper and wildlife educator. He went on to become an animal care specialist and trainer in zoos and aquariums. He relocated to Pennsylvania in 1993 to work in the zoo business. Jim worked locally at the Elmwood Park Zoo and created an animal education business featuring live animals called Animal Educators.
When looking for a new career direction with dogs, Jim found Cindy Horsfall’s canine hydrotherapy program. Cindy is a pioneer in canine hydrotherapy. He soon became a student of her program earning two certificates in hydrotherapy. Soon after, Surf Dog Swim Spa was created. Opening its doors in September of 2016, Surf Dog has helped countless dogs recover from various issues and has taught many the joy of swimming. Jim is married and has two adult children that share his love of dogs. He currently has three canine kids, Sparky, Kira and Bryn.
Brie is from Newtown, Pennsylvania and graduated from Temple University with a BS in Recreational Therapy. She is an avid lover of all animals, especially dogs. She is the former owner of a successful pet sitting and dog walking business named Give Brie Your Paw.

Brie became interested in dog swimming after watching her dog Koda swim at our facility. She earned her certificate for Canine Hydrotherapy in November of 2022 and joined the Surf Dog team as a swim coach thereafter. Brie has a gentle touch with the dogs and is a favorite amongst our canine clientele. She lives with her fiancé and has three dogs, Koda, Trixie and Cooper, as well as three cats Milo, Binx and Cat.
